A self-proclaimed Ayurveda practitioner has been operating behind the Dollygunj Chowk Bus Stand in Sri Vijaya Puram, raising serious concerns for public health. This quack, who is unregistered and lacks recognised medical qualifications, claims to provide guaranteed cures for chronic ailments like diabetes and high blood pressure, among many others.
A large banner outside the quack’s establishment boldly advertises the supposed efficacy of his treatments, luring unsuspecting residents into his trap. The claims are not only medically unsubstantiated but also dangerously misleading, putting the health of the local populace at grave risk.
Sting Operation Exposes False Claims:
Nicobar Times conducted a sting operation to investigate these dubious practices. Posing as a diabetes patient, the team recorded the quack’s statements during their visit. The quack confidently claimed that his medicine could completely cure diabetes in just 40 days. He went on to assure that after completing the treatment, patients could consume sugar and rice freely without any repercussions.
Shockingly, he advised discontinuing doctor-prescribed diabetes medication after 4-5 days of using his concoction, urging exclusive reliance on his so-called remedy. He offered two packages for treatment: the first, priced at â‚ą8,775, claimed to cure only diabetes. The second package, costing â‚ą21,775, included treatment for diabetes as well as “gupt rog” (a euphemism for sexual health issues).
Another Quack Operating in Bhatubasti:
In addition to the quack at Dollygunj, Nicobar Times has received credible information about another such practitioner operating in the Bhatubasti area. Similar to the Dollygunj case, this quack is also reportedly luring residents with claims of guaranteed treatment for chronic ailments including sexual health problems. This indicates a broader issue of unregistered medical practices in the region, necessitating urgent intervention by the authorities.
The Truth About Diabetes Treatment:
Medical science is unequivocal: there is currently no permanent cure for diabetes. While advancements in treatment and management have significantly improved the quality of life for patients, diabetes remains a chronic condition. Management typically includes lifestyle changes, consistent monitoring of blood sugar levels, and prescribed medication. Claims of a guaranteed cure are not only false but dangerously misleading, potentially leading patients to abandon effective treatments and jeopardise their health.
Risks of Quackery:
Relying on unregistered practitioners poses severe risks. Medications provided by such quacks often lack scientific validation, proper formulation, and regulatory oversight. This can lead to harmful side effects, worsening of the original condition, or even the development of life-threatening complications. For chronic diseases like diabetes, where precise management is critical, following unscientific advice can be disastrous.
Moreover, quacks prey on vulnerable individuals desperate for relief, exploiting their trust and financial resources. Public health experts warn that these practices can lead to widespread health crises if left unchecked.
Urgent Need for Action:
The operation of such quacks underscores a significant lapse in regulatory oversight. Authorities must recognize the gravity of the situation and take immediate action to shut down these unlicensed establishments.
Allowing unqualified individuals to operate unchecked not only endangers public health but also undermines the credibility of legitimate medical systems, including Ayurveda, which has a rich tradition grounded in scientific principles. Strict enforcement of laws against unregistered medical practitioners and public awareness campaigns are essential to protect residents from falling prey to these dangerous practices.
With multiple quacks now operating in the area, including Dollygunj and Bhatubasti, it is imperative that authorities in Sri Vijaya Puram prioritize public health by taking swift and decisive action. Their continued operation poses an undeniable threat to the well-being of residents, many of whom may already be grappling with chronic illnesses that require proper medical care.
As the situation unfolds, Nicobar Times will continue to highlight such issues and demand accountability from those responsible for safeguarding public health.
