Mr. Rangalal Halder, President, Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to provide the opportunity to elected PRI Members i.e. Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad Up-Adhyaksh, Parmukh, Up-Pramukh and Pradhan instead of Govt. Officials to hoist the National Flag on Independence Day in their respective Panchayats, Tehsils and Districts.
In his letter, he mentioned that PRI Members have been elected in the Panchayati Raj Elections to work for the people in their respective jurisdictions. He added that they should get the opportunity to hoist National Flag on Independence Day.
Earlier Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, BJP, A & N Island also made the same request to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor. It is being reported that many elected PRI Members across party lines have also written to the authorities with similar demands.
