In a remarkable display of vigilance and swift action, the Rangat Police Station has successfully recovered stolen cows and arrested five individuals involved in illegal cattle trafficking, underscoring their commitment to curbing this illicit activity.
The incident began on June 7, 2024, when a complaint was lodged at PS Rangat regarding the theft of two cows. Promptly responding to the report, an FIR was registered under the relevant sections of the law. A dedicated team was assembled under the leadership of SI Madhab Halder, SHO PS Rangat, including SI Manoj Lal and PCs K. Sameer, MK Akbar Ali, and Pranab Halder.
Following an intense search operation conducted in the nearby creeks and sea area, a significant breakthrough occurred. In a daring midnight operation amid rough seas, a dinghy transporting cattle in a hazardous manner was intercepted. This operation was bolstered by the assistance of the PMF unit of Rangat, led by SI Abdul Latheef.
Upon questioning, the traffickers were unable to produce valid documentation for the cattle, revealing their involvement in illegal cattle smuggling. The recovered cattle were safely brought ashore, and the offenders were detained for further legal proceedings. Additional charges related to cruelty against animals were also filed against the suspects.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO Rangat, and the overall direction and oversight of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North and Middle Andaman District.
