Rangat Police Crack Hit-and-Run Case in Mere 16 Hours After Registration of FIR

The Rangat Police demonstrated their unwavering commitment to justice by swiftly solving a hit-and-run case that occurred near Darbar Bakery, Rangat. Within a mere 16 hours of the incident, the dedicated police team apprehended the prime suspect, providing much-needed closure to the victim and the community.

On September 20, 2023, the Rangat Police received information regarding a hit-and-run incident near Darbar Bakery, Rangat. A good samaritan had rushed the victims to CHC Rangat for immediate medical attention. Responding promptly to the call, a team from the Rangat Police Station recorded a statement from Miss Pooja Samadder, Supervisor at Rangat Gram Panchayat, who provided critical details about the incident.

Miss Pooja Samadder recounted that on the fateful day, while she was traveling with a friend towards Bakultala from Rangat Bazaar at approximately 2:20 PM, a pickup truck forcefully collided with her Scooty from behind at a high speed. The collision resulted in severe injuries to Miss Pooja Samadder and minor injuries to her friend. Shockingly, the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene before they could note down its registration number.

In response to the complaint, the Rangat Police swiftly initiated a First Information Report (FIR) at the Rangat Police Station. A specialized team, comprising SI Anish Ibrahim, SI Devraju, PCs Anil, Sheetal, Rahul Yadav, Pranav, and Suraj Mistry, led by Inspector R.K. Mazumder, SHO of PS Rangat, was assembled for the investigation. Their work involved meticulous physical and technical analysis, diligent examination of CCTV footage, and valuable tips from informers and the public.

Through these concerted efforts, the police team successfully cracked the hit-and-run case within a mere 16 hours from the registration of the FIR. The tireless work of the Rangat Police culminated in the apprehension of the accused, identified as Mr. Avijit Gharami, a 38-year-old pickup truck driver residing in Rangat. The accused has been booked under the relevant sections of the law, ensuring that justice will be served.

This remarkable achievement was made possible under the able supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, SDPO Rangat, and the overall direction and guidance of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
