Rangat Police Seizes 1.753 Kilograms Illicit Ganja, Arrests Two in Swift Operation

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Rangat Police have seized 1.753 kilograms of illicit ganja and arrested two individuals in a well-coordinated operation. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Madhab Halder, Station House Officer of Police Station Rangat, and his team, which included SI Manoj Lal, Head Constable D. Rushkeshwar Rao, and Constables T. Abdul Ameen, K. Samir, and Yashwant Rao.

Acting on credible information, the police conducted a raid near Shiv Mandir in Rangat. During the operation, Krishna Das, 50, a resident of Vegetable Market, Rangat, was intercepted and found in possession of 1.536 kilograms of ganja. Further investigation revealed that the contraband was being smuggled from Kolkata through the local post office with the assistance of Anal Biswas, 40, a Daily Rated Mazdoor (DRM) at the Rangat Post Office and a resident of area near Fish Market, Rangat.

Following this lead, the police swiftly moved to apprehend Biswas, who was found with an additional 217 grams of ganja in his possession. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the illegal sale of ganja. They were promptly arrested, and a case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at PS Rangat.

This seizure marks a significant victory for the North & Middle Andaman District Police, dealing a substantial blow to local drug networks. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rangat, and under the overall direction of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.

The police have urged the public to report any information related to crime or illegal activities to their nearest police station or via the helpline numbers 100, 112, and 03192-273344. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and they will be suitably rewarded for their assistance.
