Rangat Police Swiftly Apprehend Robbery Suspect, 96% of Stolen Money Recovered

In a remarkable display of swift response and efficiency, the Rangat Police successfully apprehended a robbery suspect on September 8th, 2023. The accused, identified as Mali Taman, had allegedly robbed Rs. 70,000 from a retired forest labourer, William Dung Dung, in broad daylight at the SBI Rangat Branch.

The incident unfolded at the bank when William Dung Dung, accompanied by Mali Taman, visited the establishment to withdraw money due to Dung Dung’s illiteracy. After a successful withdrawal of Rs. 70,000 from the cash counter, Mali Taman turned on Dung Dung, physically assaulted him, forcibly seized the money, and issued threats before fleeing the scene. Mr. Dung Dung immediately reported the incident to the Rangat Police Station, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

In a commendable response, a dedicated police team was quickly assembled, led by Sub-Inspector Deva Raju, with officers Anil Yadav, Sonu Yadav, and Sheetal, under the supervision of Inspector R.K Mazumder, SHO PS, Rangat. Their primary objective was to swiftly locate and apprehend the suspect.

Through relentless efforts and a determined pursuit, the investigative team received crucial information suggesting that the suspect had fled to Kadamtala. In collaboration with the Kadamtala Police Station, the joint team successfully apprehended Mali Taman in less than five hours. The suspect was subsequently brought to PS Rangat, where more than 96% of the stolen money was recovered.

This exemplary operation was conducted under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, SDPO, Rangat, and received overall guidance from Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
