Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Home Minister, and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for providing much-needed relief to unemployed youths of the Islands. The Administration has decided to continue the existing upper age limits of 33 years for male and 38 years for female candidates for recruitment to Group-C posts in all departments under the A&N Administration.
The decision follows the persistent demand raised by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray before the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Home Minister, and the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the Union Territory on July 26, 2025. Mr. Ray also personally met the Hon’ble Prime Minister on August 23, 2025, to press for the continuation of age relaxation.
It may be recalled that the draft Recruitment Rules had proposed fixing the upper age limit at 27 years for Group-C posts, a move strongly opposed by Mr. Ray. He argued that such a reduction would severely limit employment opportunities for Island youths and emphasized the need for parity with Union Territory of Ladakh, where the age limit is 40 years. Following his intervention, the Administration has reconsidered the matter and retained the existing age criteria as per Notification No. 41/06/F.No.16-6/93-PW dated 07.03.2006.
With this decision, a large number of unemployed youths across the Islands will now be eligible to participate in forthcoming recruitment drives for Group-C posts, thereby opening wider avenues for employment.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray once again conveyed his sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Home Minister, and the A&N Administration for this significant decision taken in the interest of the Island youths. (Story Based on PR)
