In a significant achievement for a school located in one of the remotest corners of the country, the Government Middle School (GMS), Govind Nagar, Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar, has been announced as one of the Regional Winners in the prestigious Wipro Earthian Sustainability Education Program 2024-25.

Despite its remote location on Great Nicobar Island, GMS Govind Nagar emerged victorious with 20 other shortlisted schools from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, selected from a total of 111 project submissions. The school’s innovative project, titled *EcoEd: Integrating Sustainability Education into the Curriculum for Waste Awareness*, reflected a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and waste management.

Under the guidance of Miss M. Saranya, GTT Science, five students—Nikita Minj (Class VIII), Sanjana Kumari (Class VIII), Sanjeeta Burh (Class VII), Christina Aind (Class VII), and Naitik Baraik (Class VI)—led the project that brought recognition to their school and district.

The project was part of the Wipro Earthian Sustainability Education Program, which is coordinated locally by Mr. A. Gopal, Project Officer of CPR Environmental Education Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram. The culmination of the program saw an award ceremony held on January 21, 2025, at the TGCE Auditorium, where regional winners were honored with certificates and mementos.

Due to their remote location, the students and staff of GMS Govind Nagar attended the event virtually. The certificates and memento were later presented at the school by the Teacher In Charge, Ms. Chandana Barai, who congratulated the students and their guide teacher for their remarkable achievement.

This recognition underscores the capability and determination of students from remote areas to excel on a national platform, proving that distance and isolation are no barriers to innovation and academic excellence.
