In an age where computer literacy is paramount for securing decent employment, residents of Great Nicobar find themselves at a disadvantage due to the absence of accessible computer courses.

The now-defunct Computer Courses, once offered by the Skill Development Centre in Campbell Bay under the auspices of Dr. B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair, were a lifeline for many residents, including students. However, for unspecified reasons, these courses were discontinued, leaving the community bereft of essential computer learning opportunities.

“Computer Skills have become integral to all job profiles in today’s world. It is important for everyone in today’s age to become computer literate in order to land any decent job,” emphasised a concerned resident.

The vacuum left by the cessation of these courses has been keenly felt, particularly by students who now lack avenues for acquiring vital computer skills. Recognising this pressing need, there has been a resounding call from the public urging for the reinstatement of Computer Courses at the Skill Development Centre in Campbell Bay.

In an attempt to address these demands, Nicobar Times reached out to the relevant authorities. They acknowledged the community’s plea and revealed that efforts to recruit a Computer Instructor for the Skill Development Centre in Campbell Bay had been initiated previously. However, unforeseen circumstances stalled the recruitment process.

Assuring the public of their commitment, authorities disclosed plans to recommence the recruitment process for a Computer Instructor post the conclusion of the ongoing model code of conduct period in the first week of June 2024.

As the residents of Great Nicobar eagerly await the restoration of computer courses, the initiative stands as a crucial step towards empowering the community with indispensable skills essential for navigating the modern job market.
