Sports Authority of India (SAI) STC Car Nicobar commemorated National Sports Day on 29th August 2024, honouring the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event was marked by a series of activities aimed at promoting sports and fitness among the community.
The day commenced with a solemn ceremony where SAI Car Nicobar members paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand’s enduring sporting legacy. Following the commemoration, the event featured indigenous games, including a spirited tug of war, that brought together participants of all ages. Additionally, a sports quiz was held, with winners being recognised for their knowledge and enthusiasm.
In a significant move to foster grassroots sports talent, the Centre also launched the online registration process for athletes from the Nicobar District as part of the Project KIRTI initiative. Project KIRTI, a premier talent hunt and fitness assessment drive under SAI’s Khelo India Scheme, aims to identify and nurture budding athletes in the region. This online registration process is expected to open doors for talented individuals, offering them a platform to showcase their potential and embark on a path to sporting excellence.
Athletes interested in registering for Project KIRTI are encouraged to visit the SAI STC Car Nicobar Centre for more information. Alternatively, they can reach out via email at saicarnicobar01@gmail.com.
National Sports Day at SAI Car Nicobar not only celebrated the legacy of one of India’s greatest sportsmen but also reinforced the Centre’s commitment to developing sports talent at the grassroots level, ensuring that Major Dhyan Chand’s spirit of excellence lives on in the athletes of tomorrow.
