SAI STC Car Nicobar Weightlifters Shine at ASMITA Khelo India South Zone Women’s League Weightlifting Championship in Kerala

Weightlifters from SAI STC Car Nicobar delivered an impressive performance at the ASMITA Khelo India South Zone Women’s League Weightlifting Championship held at VKN Menon Indoor Stadium, Thrissur, Kerala, from December 1 to 5, 2025. Representing the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the young athletes showcased exceptional strength, discipline and competitive spirit across multiple categories.

Among the medal winners, 15-year-old Tanyasha from Vikas Nagar, Nancowry Island, emerged as the star performer. Competing in the Youth Girls 63 kg category, she clinched the Gold Medal with a total lift of 130 kg — 56 kg in Snatch and 74 kg in Clean & Jerk, outshining strong contenders from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

In the Senior Women’s 49 kg category, Alaska Aleena (19), from Chukchucha Village, Car Nicobar, secured a Bronze Medal with a total lift of 110 kg (Snatch – 49 kg, Clean & Jerk – 61 kg).

Another promising athlete, M.R. Prithika (15), from Tapoiming Village, Car Nicobar, also earned a Bronze Medal in the Youth Girls 53 kg category, lifting a total of 101 kg (Snatch – 43 kg, Clean & Jerk – 58 kg).

These achievements come under the expert mentorship of Mr. S. Chidambara Rajan, Weightlifting Coach at SAI STC Car Nicobar, whose disciplined coaching and structured training have significantly contributed to the athletes’ success.

Officials said the results reflect the growing sporting potential in Car Nicobar and the commitment of SAI STC to nurturing young talent. The Centre continues to offer quality training, expert coaching and holistic support to athletes.

Expressing pride in the team’s performance, Centre In-Charge Mr. Vishwajit B. Sutar acknowledged the continued guidance from SAI NSEC Kolkata Region, including the Executive Director and Deputy Director (Operations), and the support of SAI STC Sri Vijaya Puram in strengthening athlete development pathways.

The medals mark another milestone for the islands as local athletes continue to excel at zonal and national platforms.
