Sanjay Kumar Singh Meets Chief Secretary; Highlights Problems Faced by Residents of Great Nicobar Island

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands & Zilla Parishad Member, Govind Nagar/Campbell Bay today met Mr. Jitendra Narain, Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and highlighted the problems being faced by the residents of Great Nicobar.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh informed the Chief Secretary about the poor public transportation within Great Nicobar Islands and requested that two new busses be immediately provided to the local STS Unit of Campbell Bay. 

He also informed the Chief Secretary about the problems being faced by the residents because of irregular shipping services and requested him to direct the concerned officials to provide at least one ship weekly for Campbell Bay. He further informed the Chief Secretary about the demand of the general public for a ship to Chennai via Campbell Bay, every month during the summer vacation, to reduce the cost and time of travel.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh also highlighted the problems of the tribals of Makachua village who have been living without electricity for almost four months. The Diesel Generator of the Community Power House at Makachua developed problems, because of which the tribal population there is forced to live without electricity. Mr. Sanjay requested the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned officials to immediately get the DG Set repaired or make alternate arrangements to provide power to the residents of Makachua village.

He also informed the Chief Secretary about the problems being faced by the Govt. Departments and General Public because of non-availability of earth for construction as well as developmental works. He informed that earth cutting permits have not been issued in Great Nicobar for a long time, because of which several developmental projects are on a halt. He further added, that because of the non-availability of earth the general public is not able to construct and repair buildings. He requested the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned officers to solve this issue.

He further informed the Chief Secretary of the pathetic condition of the State Highway-2 also known as the North-South Road of Campbell Bay. He explained that the SH-2 is in a pathetic state with thousands of potholes, he added that the residents of Laxmi Nagar Gram Panchayat are facing a lot of issues because of the condition of the road. He requested the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned officials of APWD for the immediate renovation of the said road. 

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh also highlighted the issues related to health with the Chief Secretary. He informed that at present there is only one doctor at PHC Campbell Bay and the general public is facing problems because of the non-availability of a female doctor. Further, he informed that for almost two months Ultra-Sound technician has not visited Campbell Bay, because of which the pregnant women are facing problems. He request the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned officials to solve the health-related issues being faced by the residents of Great Nicobar.

Chief Secretary responded positively to all the issues raised by Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh. 

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh thanked the Chief Secretary for the patient hearing and requested him to immediately intervene to solve all problems being faced by the residents.
