In a commendable show of social responsibility and collaboration, the Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS), in association with the Blood Centre of G.B. Pant Hospital and the Directorate of Health Services, organized a blood donation camp at the premises of the State Bank of India (SBI), Mohanpura Branch, Sri Vijaya Puram, on July 1, 2025. The initiative received an enthusiastic response, with 42 units of blood donated by voluntary donors.
The camp was held under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director of ANACS and Director of the State Blood Transfusion Council, A&N Islands. Dr. Shazia Sultana M.A., Junior Resident, Department of Pathology, G.B. Pant Hospital, facilitated the smooth conduct of the event. Donors were carefully screened for eligibility and sensitised on the importance of voluntary blood donation.
SBI Regional Manager Mr. Santosh Sahu played a key role in organising and ensuring the success of the camp, making all necessary logistical arrangements.
The technical teams from the Blood Centre and ANACS carried out thorough screenings of the donated blood to rule out transmissible diseases and also managed donor eligibility checks. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to all voluntary donors as a token of gratitude.
The event highlighted the collective commitment of healthcare institutions and the banking sector in promoting voluntary blood donation and strengthening the island’s healthcare preparedness.
