Liju Thankachan, General Secretary of Seafarers Confederation of India (SCI) has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Islands demanding departmental action against the officials of Directorate of Shipping Services who have been booked by the CBI in a FIR vide FIR No. RC1212929A0003 dated 03.12.2020.

Liju Thankachan in his letter congratulated the Chief Secretary on assuming his charge. He further wrote that it is his firm belief that under the leadership of the Chief Secretary stern action will be taken against the corrupt Govt. Servants who have been free so far.

He further informed the Chief Secretary that an FIR has been filed by the Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB, Port Blair), CBI against (1) Capt. Rajinder Kumar, the then Director of Shipping Services now engaged on contract basis. (2) R Veeraiah, Deputy Director, Directorate of Shipping Services (3) J Gopinathan, OIC Planning, Directorate of Shipping Services and two private officers of ABS Marine Capt. P.B Narayanan and Mrs. Shreelatha Narayan.

He informed the Chief Secretary that although the officers of Directorate of Shipping Services have been booked in the FIR but no departmental action has been initiated against them yet.

He further wrote that in case any low ranking Govt. Officers are booked in any FIR, department initiates action against them immediately and penalty is imposed even before the decision of the criminal case.

He requested the Chief Secretary to take immediate action against the Govt. Servants named in the FIR by removing them from their current posts so that the truth can be unearthed.

While speaking to Nicobar Times on the issue Liju Thankachan informed us that he is confident that the Chief Secretary will definitely take action in this regard since his track record against corruption is very good and he is an officer who has never tolerated corruption.
