As part of the celebration of National Science Day, a befitting programme was organised by the Science Centre in its campus on 28th February 2023. The Day is celebrated to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by an eminent Scientist, Sir CV Raman. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Global Science for Global wellbeing’. The Secretary Science & Technology/ Vice Chairman, Science Centre, A & N Administration, Mr. Aman Gupta, IAS was the chief guest on the occasion. The Secretary, Executive Council, Science Centre, Dr. Utpal Sharma, students and parents were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest explained the significance of the Day. He threw light on the genesis of the Raman Effect which led to a remarkable discovery by Sir CV Raman. Likewise, he said, life offers us many opportunities to observe, research, discover, innovate and come up with inventions to redress various problems in society. He called upon the student community to develop scientific temperament and continue with the quest to discover and innovate for the well-being of the society at large. He urged parents to support and encourage their children to think innovatively and also in realising their dreams. He also bestowed his best wishes to the students in all their future endeavours.
The chief guest also presented awards to the winners of various competitions organized by the Science Centre during the weeklong celebration. As many as 600 students from various parts of the Islands participated in the competitions. The chief guest also witnessed the exhibits displayed by the students on the theme ‘Best out of Waste’ and appreciated their works.
Earlier, the Curator, Science Centre, Mr. Sajan Thomas welcomed the gathering and informed about various activities conducted by the Science Centre to foster scientific temper among students. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Education Officer, Science Centre, Mr. Debasish Paul.
