Science Centre Celebrates National Science Day with Enthusiasm in Sri Vijaya Puram

Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, celebrated National Science Day on February 28 in a befitting manner, commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman. This year’s theme, “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” highlighted the pivotal role of women in driving scientific innovation and nation-building.

Marking the occasion, the Science Centre organised a series of competitions and activities aimed at fostering scientific awareness and nurturing curiosity among school students. Around 550 students from various schools across Sri Vijaya Puram enthusiastically participated in the events conducted during the Science Week.

Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Officer-in-Charge, Atal Centre of Ocean Science & Technology, Sri Vijaya Puram, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He distributed trophies and certificates to the winners of the various competitions. In his address, Dr. Jha lauded the efforts of the Science Centre in organising innovative educational programmes that help inculcate scientific temper among young minds. He emphasised the importance of nurturing curiosity and critical thinking to build a progressive and developed India.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Mr. Debashis Paul, Education Officer of the Science Centre, stated that the Centre serves as an ideal platform for students to develop scientific aptitude, offering a range of engaging science exhibits and interactive programmes.

Mr. Shajan Thomas, Curator of the Science Centre, expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response from students and appreciated their active participation in the competitions held during the Science Week.

The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to promote science education and inspire the next generation of innovators and researchers.
