Sri Vijaya Puram, 23 February 2025
As part of the National Science Day celebrations, the Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, organised a ‘Bird Watching Programme’ on February 21, 2025. The event aimed to introduce students to the region’s rich avian biodiversity and enhance their observational skills in a natural setting.
Students were taken to Chidiyatapu, a well-known birding hotspot, where they learned to identify various bird species using binoculars. Displaying great enthusiasm, the participants successfully identified 18 species, including the Andaman Wood Pigeon, the state bird of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Around 50 students from different schools in and around Sri Vijaya Puram took part in the educational excursion.
Following the tour, students appeared for a ‘Feedback Test’ to assess their learning experience. R. Sobith of Kamaraj English Medium School, Brookshabad, secured the first position, while P. Vaishnavi of Govt. Middle School, Corbyn’s Cove, came second. Akshita S. of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Pathergudda, and Anushka Majhi of Invent Public School, Prothrapur, were awarded third and consolation prizes, respectively.
The winners will be felicitated during the National Science Day celebrations on February 28, 2025.
