Seaplane Services in Islands Likely to Begin Soon

The Managing Director of M/s MEHAIR Seaplanes Pvt. Ltd. called on Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, at Lok Niwas on Monday and apprised him of the progress regarding the proposed seaplane operations in the Islands.

During the meeting, it was informed that the company has been awarded routes for seaplane services across five sectors—Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Long Island, Mayabunder and Hut Bay. The chartering of seaplanes and engagement of pilots are presently at an advanced stage.

With the completion of groundwork and development of the water segments, seaplane operations in three sectors—Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Long Island connecting Sri Vijaya Puram—are expected to commence shortly.

The Lt. Governor urged the company to expedite the remaining works to enable early operationalization of seaplane services, which are expected to significantly enhance inter-island connectivity and promote tourism in the region.

During the discussion, options for introducing advanced new technology air-cushioned vehicles for sea transportation were also explored to further strengthen connectivity across the Islands.
