Sri Vijaya Puram | January 06, 2026
The Department of Fisheries, in association with the Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T) Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, and with financial support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, will organise the second edition of the Island Seafood Festival on January 15 and 16, 2026, at Sri Vijaya Puram. The festival is being organised as part of efforts to promote seafood consumption culture and strengthen Tuna Cluster Development in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The two-day event aims to showcase the rich marine biodiversity of the islands and highlight fisheries-based livelihoods. A range of activities has been planned, including cultural programmes, seafood cooking demonstrations, public competitions and interactive sessions. The festival seeks to popularise island seafood culture among local residents as well as tourists, while encouraging domestic fish marketing and increased fish consumption.
In addition, the festival will serve as a platform to create awareness about key fisheries-related flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and PM-MKSSY. Farmer–scientist interaction meets and outreach activities will be organised to disseminate information on sustainable fisheries practices, government support mechanisms and livelihood opportunities in the sector.
Stalls will be allotted to interested fisheries associations, entrepreneurs, fisheries cooperatives, aquarium shops, sport fishing vessel owners, hotels and restaurants, women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs and other stakeholders. These stalls will showcase a wide range of fisheries-related activities, products and services, including live, fresh, chilled and frozen fish, value-added fish products, seafood cuisines, aquariums, fish feed, essential fisheries requisites and sport fishing services. Details regarding the venue layout and stall allotment will be communicated after the selection of beneficiaries.
