Building on the successful finalisation of tenders for the first phase of flagship eco-tourism projects, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has moved ahead with plans for a second phase of tourism-led development, covering 11 additional sites across North, Middle and South Andaman. The initiative forms part of the broader Holistic Development of Islands (HDI) framework of the Government of India, aimed at creating a sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive tourism ecosystem in the Islands.

According to press release by A & N Administration, comprehensive master plans for all 11 identified locations have already been completed. The Administration is now in the process of appointing transaction advisors to initiate the bidding process for the first set of six locations, which will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

In North Andaman, Kalipur has been earmarked for the development of an eco- and wellness resort along with a cultural village, while Ramnagar will host an eco- and wellness resort focused on nature-based tourism. In Middle Andaman, Aamkunj has been planned as a multi-activity destination featuring camping facilities, caravan parking and water sports infrastructure, whereas Raman Bagicha will be developed as a budget resort complemented by a cultural village showcasing local heritage. In South Andaman, North Bay has been identified for eco-resort development, while Flat Bay is proposed to be developed as a multi-use tourism zone comprising a marine, agricultural and spice park, a mangrove park and designated camping site.

The projects are expected to unlock substantial economic value, attract high-end and experiential tourism, and generate significant direct and indirect employment opportunities for local communities.

Together with the first phase of eco-tourism projects, the second phase is seen as a transformative step toward reshaping the tourism landscape of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands through sustainable development, private sector participation and long-term livelihood generation.
