The Secretary (Shipping), A&N Administration, Ms. Purva Garg, conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing construction of the Sea Port Terminal at Swaraj Dweep recently. The inspection aimed at evaluating the physical progress of the project, identifying bottlenecks, and ensuring strict quality compliance for the island’s key maritime infrastructure development.

During the visit, Ms. Garg inspected critical components of the project, including the passenger terminal building, berthing facilities, utility blocks, public amenities, as well as essential service infrastructure such as water supply systems, power requirements, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations.

Officials from the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) and the contractor’s site engineers presented the current work status, progress timelines, and pending tasks. The review also included discussions on the repair work of the Swaraj Dweep Jetty and its approach road. Ms. Garg instructed ALHW officials to actively pursue the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) for the early clearance of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), ensuring that passenger movement at the island remains smooth and uninterrupted.

The Sea Port Terminal project at Swaraj Dweep is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve maritime connectivity for residents and tourists visiting the island.
