Secretary (Social Welfare) Inaugurates Two Anganwadi Centres in South Andaman

On 29th November 2024, Mr. L Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Social Welfare) of A&N Administration, inaugurated two newly constructed Anganwadi Centres at Corbyn’s Quarry – 2 and Beodnabad under the ICDS Urban Project, South Andaman. The event was held with key stakeholders in attendance, including community leaders and government officials.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kumar emphasized the vital role of community participation in supporting Anganwadi workers and ensuring that children benefit from these essential services. He stressed the need for collaboration between parents, community leaders, and the government to create a robust support system for children’s holistic development. The Secretary also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child, especially in urban areas, receives proper nutrition and education, as part of the initiative “Poshan Bhi – Padai Bhi.”

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Mr. Rajesh Ram, Councillor (Ward No.22), Mr. Paramasivam, Pradhan of Beodnabad, Mr. PC James, PO ICDS, and other prominent figures such as Zilla Parisad Members, Samiti Members, and PRI Members.

In her welcome address, Ms. Zarina Bibi, CDPO of the ICDS Urban Project, highlighted the support from line departments and the active participation of the community in the success of the project. She also spoke about the significance of the Anganwadi Centres and their contribution to the local communities.

The Ward Councillor, Pradhan, and Zilla Parishad Member expressed their gratitude to the Secretary for fulfilling the long-standing demand for an Anganwadi Centre in their respective areas. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Jessy Susan George, Mukhya Sevika.
