Security Measures Tightened in South Andaman District Ahead of General Election 2024

With the General Election 2024 looming, authorities in South Andaman District have ramped up security measures to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process. In a strategic move, one company of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) has been deployed across various police stations in the district.

The primary objective behind this deployment is to maintain law and order, particularly by conducting essential activities like flag marches, area patrolling, and setting up checkpoints (Nakas) to thwart any attempts by anti-social elements to disrupt the electoral process.

The collaborative efforts between the local police and CAPF underscore the commitment to uphold the integrity of the electoral process while ensuring the safety and security of the general public during this critical period.

Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police for South Andaman District, accompanied by CAPF personnel and the team from Bambooflat Police Station, conducted foot patrolling in the Bambooflat area to assert their presence and readiness to handle any untoward incidents, particularly those related to the election.

Expressing commitment to a transparent and smooth conduct of General Election 2024, South Andaman District Police reiterated their dedication to upholding democratic values and preserving public safety through the joint deployment of CAPF and local police for maintaining law and order.

These proactive security measures highlight the authorities’ vigilance in maintaining peace and order while fostering an environment conducive to democratic participation. Through continuous coordination and vigilance, South Andaman District aims to conduct a successful and secure electoral process.

The general public has been urged to report any instances of anti-social activities that may compromise the fairness of the election to the police via emergency numbers 100, 112, 1077, or by calling 03192-238881. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
