In a major success against illegal poaching activities, seven Myanmarese poachers were apprehended during a joint anti-poaching operation carried out by the Indian Coast Guard and Andaman & Nicobar Police in the North & Middle Andaman District on September 9.

The breakthrough came when the Indian Coast Guard Ship Aruna Asaf Ali intercepted a suspicious dinghy near Landfall Island. Three poachers were immediately taken into custody, while others managed to escape towards the shore.

Following the interception, an anti-poaching team comprising personnel from PS Diglipur and the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) launched a search operation across Landfall and East Islands. Acting on timely intelligence relayed to the Lookout Post at East Island, the team apprehended four more Myanmarese poachers after an extensive jungle search.

Authorities confirmed that the operation is still underway, with intensified search efforts to track down the remaining intruders.

Officials highlighted that the success of the operation reflects the effective coordination between the Andaman & Nicobar Command and the Police, underlining their commitment to protecting the fragile ecosystem and rich marine biodiversity of the islands.
