Shaheed Dweep Police Seizes 415 Grams of Ganja, Arrests One

Acting decisively on reliable intelligence, the Shaheed Dweep Police conducted a raid that resulted in the arrest of an individual involved in the illegal possession of 415 grams of ganja.

Upon receiving credible information regarding the illegal possession of ganja, a team was swiftly formed at Police Station Shaheed Dweep. The team included PCs Abdul Wahab C.P, Apurba Biswas, Neelima Kumari Baa, Mercy, and HC(D) Manoj Kumar Ekka, under the supervision of SI PR Pradeep, SHO Shaheed Dweep. They conducted the raid near Neil Kendra Ward No.04, Shaheed Dweep. During the raid, the team recovered 415 grams of ganja from the possession of Anjala Devi, wife of Jogi Indwar, aged 48, residing in Neil Kendra, Shaheed Dweep.

The accused was charged under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The recovered ganja was seized on the spot following all legal formalities. Given that the accused is a woman and the raid occurred at night, she was instructed to report to the police station for interrogation in the morning. On the morning of 29th July 2024, at 8:45 AM, the accused was arrested, all necessary formalities were completed, and she was released on bail as per the law.

This operation highlights the South Andaman District Police’s commitment to combating the illicit drug trade and ensuring the community’s safety and well-being. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement authorities in the fight against drug-related crimes.

Anjala Devi has a past criminal record, with five excise cases registered against her at Police Station Shaheed Dweep. She has been convicted in one case, while the remaining cases are pending trial at the Hon’ble Court. Due to these excise cases, a history sheet has been opened against her.

The entire raid was supervised by Mr. Sandeep Lamba, DANIPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Swaraj Dweep, under the overall supervision of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
