The State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) organized an awareness program on cyber security at Government Middle School, Sippighat, on November 28, 2025, to educate students on safe and responsible use of digital platforms. The session was conducted in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), South Andaman.

As part of the programme, Legal-cum-Probation Officer of DCPU South Andaman, Ms. G. Sandhya, engaged students in an interactive discussion and debate on the responsible use of social media. She highlighted the risks associated with minors accessing social networking platforms and cautioned students against misuse.

Ms. Hemlatha, Gender Specialist with SHEW, addressed the rising popularity of online gaming and explained the dangers associated with gaming addiction, including exposure to unknown individuals and unsafe interactions.

Speaking on growing cyber threats, Dr. Nitu Sindhu, State Mission Coordinator, SHEW, sensitized participants on cyberbullying, online morphing and unsafe virtual engagements. She also shared preventive measures and real-life scenarios to help students identify and avoid potential cyber risks.

Around 75 students and school staff attended the programme, which aimed at strengthening awareness on digital safety and responsible technology use among young users.

The initiative received appreciation from the Headmistress, Ms. Meeta Das, teachers and students. The program was conducted under the guidance of Social Welfare Director, Mr. Ravinder Kumar, and forms part of SHEW’s ongoing efforts to promote safe online behaviour and cyber awareness among children and adolescents.
