The Community Development (CD) Block Prothrapur has successfully conducted an eight-day farm training programme for members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) from several Gram Panchayats under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

The training programme, which commenced on February 23, 2026, was organized for SHG members from GP Sippighat, GP Beodnabad, GP Calicut, GP Govind Nagar and GP Shyam Nagar. The initiative aimed at strengthening sustainable livelihood opportunities while promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices among rural women.

During the programme, participants were provided training in key areas such as nutriti-garden development, organic farming, vermi-composting and floriculture. The sessions were conducted with the technical support of the Agriculture Department, enabling SHG members to gain practical knowledge and hands-on exposure to modern and sustainable farming techniques.

The training witnessed active participation and enthusiastic involvement from the SHG members. Participants expressed keen interest in adopting innovative agricultural practices that can help improve household nutrition while also generating additional sources of income.

Several SHG members also showed particular interest in floriculture and fresh flower bouquet making. Many participants registered their names with the Agriculture Department to receive flower plant seeds and saplings to initiate the activity in their respective villages.

Speaking on the occasion, the Block Development Officer (BDO), Prothrapur, Ms. Gurjeet Kaur, encouraged SHG members to take up vermi-composting as a viable livelihood activity. She also urged the groups to undertake collective activities in floriculture and bouquet making, which could help them tap local market demand and create additional income opportunities.

The training programme is expected to empower rural women with practical skills and knowledge, enabling them to adopt sustainable farming practices and enhance their economic self-reliance.
