Under the framework of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), a two-day Food Mela was successfully organized by the CD Block Ferrargunj on February 21 and 22 at the scenic Wandoor Beach.
The event aimed at promoting rural entrepreneurship and enhancing livelihood opportunities for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by providing them with a public platform to showcase locally prepared food products developed under DAY-NRLM. The initiative also focused on strengthening market linkages and increasing income generation for women SHG members.
The Food Mela was graced by Ms. Padmawati, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj; Mr. Aadhir Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor; Mr. Bharat Sharma, Samiti Member, Wandoor Gram Panchayat; Ms. Kavita, Samiti Member, Humfrygunj; and Ms. Lalita Tigga, Block Development Officer (BDO), Ferrargunj. The dignitaries visited the stalls, interacted with SHG members, and appreciated the efforts of the women entrepreneurs for their enthusiastic participation and quality presentation.
A total of 17 Self-Help Groups from Wandoor, Chouldari, Humfrygunj, and Guptapara participated in the mela by setting up food stalls offering a wide range of traditional, local, and popular dishes. The stalls reflected the culinary skills, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of the SHG members and received an encouraging response from visitors, tourists, and local residents.
To add vibrancy to the event, cultural programmes were organized on both days, featuring performances by local artists and community members. The programmes highlighted the cultural diversity and heritage of the region and drew significant footfall to the mela venue.
Overall, the Food Mela served as a meaningful platform for SHGs to gain exposure, build confidence, and generate income, in line with the broader vision of DAY-NRLM to ensure sustainable livelihoods and inclusive rural development.
