Shopkeepers & Public Meets AC, Gives Ultimatum to Remove Road Blockades from Campbell Bay; SDPO Calls Meeting to Avoid Possible Clash

Shopkeepers and members of the general public met the Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay today and gave him an ultimatum to remove the blockades from Campbell Bay roads by 02:00 Pm today.

The members of the fishermen community have blocked the roads of Campbell Bay since 8th November 2021. The third day of road blockades at Campbell Bay by the members of the fishermen community have irked the shopkeepers, traders, farmers and members of the general public.

The delegation which met the Assistant Commissioner informed Nicobar Times that if the road blockades are not removed by the Administration until 2:00 Pm, they will take steps to remove the road blockades themselves.

Sensing that a clash might take place the Sub Divisional Police Officer, Campbell Bay called for a meeting with the shopkeepers, which was attended by shopkeepers, auto drivers and members of the general public. He requested the shopkeepers to avoid a situation of clash and assured that the Administration and the Police is trying their best to solve the issue.

Those who attended the meeting informed the SDPO that they do not want any clash to happen, but the roads have been blocked by the members of the fishermen community for the third day today and now everyone is facing a lot of inconveniences. They requested the SDPO to take all possible steps to clear the road blockade by the members of the fishermen community.

The general public of Campbell Bay is irked by the manner in which the fishermen community has blocked all major roads of Campbell Bay, causing heavy inconvenience to everyone. 

The business of the shopkeepers, traders, farmers, auto-rickshaw drivers are affected. The construction workers are not able to reach constriction sites and are losing on their daily earning.
