The Directorate of Industries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, successfully concluded a 15-day short-term skill development training program on Handicrafts (Coconut Shell, Wooden, and Cane & Bamboo Products) at Namunaghar Gram Panchayat. Held from March 17 to April 7, 2025, the program aimed to equip participants with essential craftsmanship skills, fostering self-employment and boosting the local economy.
A valedictory function to mark the culmination of the training was organized on April 7, 2025. The event was attended by PRI members and local dignitaries, with Mr. Y. Venketeshwar, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Namunaghar, presiding as the chief guest. He lauded the Directorate of Industries for tailoring training programs to meet local market needs and providing holistic support services to encourage sustainable livelihoods. Addressing the gathering, he urged trainees to make the most of their new skills and explore avenues for self-employment.
Mr. R. Janak Rao, Industries Promotion Officer from the Directorate of Industries, also spoke at the event, outlining various departmental schemes designed to support such training initiatives, promote Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and create employment opportunities across the islands.
A total of 20 participants completed the training, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning and applying practical skills in handicrafts. Their participation reflects a growing interest in traditional crafts and self-reliant economic activities within the community.
The program highlights the Administration’s ongoing efforts to empower rural communities through targeted skill development and entrepreneurship promotion.
