The Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration, took a significant step towards empowering the Onge Community by organizing a successful Skill Development Training Program on ‘Handicrafts (Coconut Shell and Wood) products’ at Dugong Creek. The Program, held from May 22 to 28, 2023, aimed to provide essential skills and knowledge to enhance self-employment opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
Under the program, 20 enthusiastic villagers participated and underwent intensive training to acquire basic craftsmanship skills for creating intricate handicrafts. The training sessions were designed to impart practical knowledge and techniques, enabling the trainees to explore new avenues of economic growth.
28th May 2023, marked the concluding session of the training program, which took place at the training venue in the presence of esteemed guests. Mr. Vicky, Chief of the Onge Community, along with officials from the Tribal Welfare and Industries Department, graced the event. During the session, Chief Vicky commended the Industries Department for their proactive efforts in reaching out to the remote tribal area.
Expressing his admiration for the skill development initiative, Chief Vicky acknowledged the remarkable craftsmanship displayed by the trainees. He highlighted the importance of the acquired skills and encouraged the villagers to utilize them effectively to improve their livelihoods and financial independence.
The Skill Development Training Program on ‘Handicrafts (Coconut Shell and Wood) products’ has paved the way for a brighter future for the Onge Community. By providing them with essential skills and fostering self-employment opportunities, this initiative is set to have a positive and sustainable impact on the community’s socio-economic growth.
