In a heartfelt outreach effort, the ‘Sneh Sangam’ initiative under Elderline 14567, a National Helpline for Senior Citizens supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign in the Fisherman Colony at Junglighat. The campaign, organised in collaboration with Pankh NGO, aimed to foster empathy, connection, and provide essential information to elderly residents directly at their homes.

The primary goal of the initiative was to establish a personal connection with each senior citizen through meaningful conversations, understanding their concerns, and making them aware of the services provided by Elderline 14567. The helpline offers emotional support, guidance, information, and field intervention for senior citizens in need.

Ms. Sushma Pandey, Project Manager of the National Helpline for Senior Citizens (NHSC), led the outreach, interacting personally with each elder and encouraging them to reach out to the helpline whenever they face challenges or even feelings of loneliness. “This helpline is for you. We are here to listen and help,” she said while explaining the array of support services available through Elderline.

In a symbolic gesture of care and sustainability, Ms. Komal Anand, President of Pankh NGO, distributed saplings to the elderly participants—promoting well-being, environmental connection, and a renewed sense of purpose. Awareness posters and pamphlets were also handed out to help spread the message of support and connection further across the community.

Mr. A.K. Biswas, Nodal Officer (NHSC), engaged with the senior citizens during the visit, sharing vital information about various government schemes and welfare benefits available for the elderly.

Acharya Shudhananda Saraswati of Chinmaya Mission, who was present as the guest of honour, praised the initiative for its holistic approach to elder care. “True compassion is shown when care reaches people where they are—this initiative is a beautiful example of that spirit,” he remarked.

Many elders shared their personal experiences during the visit, voicing concerns about health issues, pensions, and emotional well-being—highlighting the pressing need for such community-level engagement.

With initiatives like Sneh Sangam, Elderline 14567 continues to build a compassionate and responsive support system for senior citizens, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and empowered.
