Social Welfare Department and Pankh NGO Join Forces to Promote Inclusivity with ‘Run for Fun’

On July 29, 2023, the Social Welfare Department collaborated with Pankh, a renowned NGO, to organize a special event called ‘Run for Fun.’ The event aimed to promote inclusiveness and provide a platform for specially-abled children and their mothers to participate actively. Simultaneously, an event was also organised for other children to foster a sense of togetherness and understanding.

With an impressive turnout, a total of 45 specially-abled children and 40 abled children participated in the event. The ‘Run for Fun’ commenced from Dharamshala Junction and concluded at Marina Park Junction, spanning a joyous and spirited route.

The event was flagged off with great enthusiasm by the esteemed Director of Social Welfare, Dr. Nitin Shakya. In attendance were notable dignitaries, including Swatch Bharat Mission Ambassador Naresh Chander Lal, as well as Swami Shudhanand Ji from the Chinmaya Mission. The presence of Ms. Reeta Devi, Welfare Officer (Women),Nodal Officer (Disabilities), Ms. Komal Anand, Founder President of Pankh and Ms. Geeta Naveen, Secretary (Pankh), added further prestige to the event.

The ‘Run for Fun’ event not only showcased the determination and spirit of specially-abled children but also fostered a sense of unity as it included other children as well. The initiative aimed to break barriers and promote social inclusion, sending a strong message of empathy and understanding to the community.

As the event drew to a close, participants were felicitated with cash prizes, certificates, medals, and awards as tokens of appreciation for their active involvement. Additionally, gifts were distributed to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and encourage future participation.
