As part of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Police (Anti-Narcotics) Department and the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman, organized awareness programs under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ on May 19 and 20 at Shoalbay and Bambooflat-II Gram Panchayats respectively.

The two-day initiative aimed to raise awareness among local communities about the grave health, emotional, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse, while encouraging community-led efforts to build a drug-free society.

The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from Panchayat leaders, including Pradhans, Samiti members, Mukhya Sevika, Anganwadi Workers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and local residents. Police officials sensitized the public on the legal repercussions of drug use and emphasized the role of law enforcement in curbing drug-related crimes.

Experts from IRCA highlighted the rehabilitation and counselling services available for individuals struggling with addiction, urging families to seek timely support.

The Social Welfare Department underscored the emotional and social toll of substance dependence and called for early intervention, strong family support, and active community engagement in addressing the issue.

Both programs concluded with interactive sessions, fostering dialogue between officials and residents. The Social Welfare Department expressed its sincere gratitude to the Pradhans and residents of Shoalbay and Bambooflat-II for their cooperation and support in making the campaign a success.
