In a significant step toward streamlining public services, the District Administration of South Andaman has launched an online helicopter ticket booking application for the Sri Vijaya Puram–Hutbay sector. This digital initiative aims to enhance accessibility, transparency, and convenience for travellers, eliminating the cumbersome manual process previously in place.
Until now, passengers traveling between Sri Vijaya Puram and Hutbay had to physically submit applications along with required documents at the District Office in South Andaman or the Tehsil Office in Little Andaman. The process also required follow-up visits to check finalised passenger lists, often leading to delays and inconvenience.
The newly launched online platform, accessible at https://sites.google.com/view/dcsvp, allows citizens to submit their applications and view passenger lists digitally, significantly reducing the need for in-person visits.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, ADM, South Andaman, highlighted that the application was developed entirely in-house, incurring no financial expenditure. He reiterated the District Administration’s commitment to digitising as many public services as possible to promote efficiency, transparency, and ease of access for citizens.
Similar system was first introduced in the Nicobar District, but was only implemented in Car Nicobar, leaving Campbell Bay and Nancowry reliant on the old manual process for reasons not known. Moreover, the system in Nicobar allows bookings only for travel from Nicobar Islands to Sri Vijaya Puram or between the Nicobar Islands themselves. It lacked functionality for booking travel from Sri Vijaya Puram to the Nicobar Islands.
In contrast, the system introduced by the South Andaman Administration offers a two-way booking facility, enabling requisition of helicopter tickets both from Sri Vijaya Puram to Hutbay and vice versa — marking a more holistic approach.
The initiative reflects Administration’s broader vision of leveraging technology to improve public service delivery and promote digital governance in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. (Story Partly Based on PR)
