In a landmark development, the District Administration of South Andaman has successfully reclaimed 493 hectares of government land spread across the villages of North Bay, Minnie Bay, Mithakhadi, and Bambooflat. The land, previously allotted to Andaman Plantation, will now be restored to the government revenue account following a Land Restoration Order issued by the administration.

The move comes after a protracted legal battle spanning 15 years, during which the administration pursued the case at multiple levels of the judiciary. The restoration marks a major victory in the government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public assets and uphold land governance.

As per the restoration order, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman has instructed the Tehsildars of Sri Vijaya Puram and Ferrargunj Tehsils to update land records accordingly, ensuring the restored status of the land is officially reflected.

“This is a significant step in protecting government land and maintaining accurate land records,” a district official said, adding that the administration remains committed to transparency and accountability in land management.
