South Andaman District Police have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate the public about newly enacted laws that took effect on July 1, 2024. This significant initiative underscores the district police’s commitment to fostering an informed and engaged community, enhancing the legal framework of the nation.
From July 1 to July 3, 2024, police officials organized and conducted awareness programs across various locations in the district. The campaign reached Aberdeen Bazaar, Haddo, Chatham, Anarkali, Delanipur, Dollygunj, Bathubasti, Port Mout, Tushnabad, Manpur, Ograbraj, Manglutan, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, and Hutbay. Officers of various ranks, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Inspectors, Station House Officers (SHOs), and other police personnel, led the initiative.
The campaign saw active participation from members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), Anganwadi workers, members of the fishing community, women, Self Help Groups (SHGs), school and college students. The events were meticulously planned to maximise engagement and education, featuring detailed presentations, strategically placed banners, and widely distributed pamphlets. These materials were designed to inform the public about the new laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
During these sessions, police officials highlighted significant changes from the old laws and emphasized the key features of the new legislation. These laws are designed to be more citizen-friendly, with a particular focus on the protection and empowerment of women and children. Additionally, the new laws emphasize greater community participation, enhanced transparency, and the integration of advanced technology to streamline legal processes.
South Andaman District Police remain steadfast in their commitment to fostering a strong and positive relationship with the community. By continuously engaging with the public and promoting legal awareness, they aim to strengthen the bond between the police and the community, ensuring a safer and more informed society for all.
