In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and community participation, the South Andaman Forest Division carried out a beach cleaning drive at Collinpur Beach under the Collinpur Gram Panchayat on Thursday. The initiative was undertaken with active support from local villagers and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members.

As part of the clean-up effort, the entire stretch of Collinpur Beach was cleared of waste, with a total of 86.155 kilograms of debris collected. The waste included plastic and glass bottles, thermocol fragments, tin cans, disposable plates, and cups.

The drive, organized by the Tushnabad Range under the ongoing ‘Mission 1 Lakh Beach Clean-Up’ campaign, aimed to foster a community-driven approach toward protecting coastal ecosystems. Officials emphasised the importance of maintaining clean and healthy beaches, which are vital to preserving the unique biodiversity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and protecting local fauna from the harmful effects of plastic pollution.

The Forest Department has appealed to both residents and visitors to responsibly dispose of waste by using designated dustbins and to adopt sustainable practices, including reducing the use of single-use plastics and avoiding littering in coastal areas.
