South Andaman District Administration Marks Armed Forces Veterans’ Day at Cellular Jail

South Andaman District Administration commemorated Armed Forces Veterans’ Day with great fervor on January 14, 2025, at the historic Cellular Jail. The event paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of the armed forces veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and security. The iconic Cellular Jail, a monument to India’s freedom struggle, served as a poignant backdrop for the occasion.

Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, celebrated annually on January 14, marks the retirement anniversary of Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army post-independence. The day is a national gesture of gratitude to the veterans who have defended the country against external threats and internal challenges, often at immense personal cost.

In his address, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, expressed profound appreciation for the veterans’ service. “Your courage and unwavering commitment to the nation serve as an inspiration to all of us. Today, we stand united in honoring your sacrifices and celebrating your contributions to our community and country,” he said.
