In a continued effort to combat wildlife crime, the South Andaman police, led by officers from OP Wimberlygunj, successfully apprehended an individual in possession of 4.5 kilograms of venison at Shoal Bay.
On December 24th, 2023, SI Rangaswamy, in charge of OP Wimberlygunj, accompanied by PC/791 S. Srinivasan, PC/2912 T. Siddique, and HG(R)/638 B. Nagaveni, received actionable intelligence from an informant. The tip-off indicated that Prasanto Sardar was involved in the sale of venison (deer meat) in Shoal Bay-14 village.
Swiftly responding to the information, the police team rushed to the specified location and apprehended Prasanto Sardar, aged 35 and a fisherman residing in Shoal Bay-14. Upon the apprehension, the authorities confiscated a red-coloured bag containing 4.5 kilograms of venison (deer meat). The seized venison was documented and taken into custody through a formal seizure memo.
Subsequently, both the offender and the confiscated venison were handed over to forest officials for further necessary action. The entire operation was conducted under the command of Abdul Nasir, SHO Bambooflat.
The South Andaman police urge the public to report any credible information regarding similar illegal activities in the area using the following telephone numbers: 258411, 258019, 233077, and 112. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided for valuable information leading to actions against wildlife crime.
This successful apprehension signifies the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to combat wildlife offences and protect endangered species within the region.
