In a proactive effort to foster community engagement and address local concerns, the South Andaman Police have launched a public outreach program titled “Police Samvaad.” This initiative aims to hold regular meetings with various segments of society, conducted by officers of the ranks of SHOs, SDPOs, and the Superintendent of Police.
To kickstart this program, meetings were convened with PRI members on July 21, 2024, at all Police Stations under the South Andaman District. These meetings provided a platform for community members to articulate their challenges and present grievances to the authorities for swift resolution. The sessions were chaired by SDPOs and SHOs, offering a chance for officers to engage directly with society members and understand their concerns.
During these sessions, PRI members highlighted various issues and emphasized the importance of collaboration between community leaders and law enforcement. Topics of discussion included local challenges such as parking constraints and the menace of stray animals, as well as suggestions for increasing police visibility. The meetings were overseen by Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District, under whose guidance the sessions were conducted.
“Police Samvaad” aims to ensure effective governance at the grassroots level by fostering open dialogue and encouraging proactive citizen participation. The South Andaman District Police are committed to reaching every member of society to make them active collaborators in ensuring community betterment. This initiative seeks to strengthen public safety and community welfare by addressing local issues through a collaborative approach.
The general public is encouraged to pass on credible information pertaining to any illegal activities by contacting the police at 236641, 233077, or 112. The identities of informers will be kept confidential.
