Special Programme Marks 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Mayabunder

A special commemorative programme marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was jointly organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) and the District Administration, North & Middle Andaman, at Mayabunder on November 8, 2025. The event began with a Padyatra (Unity March) from Danapur Junction to the Mini Stadium, Mayabunder Bazaar, drawing an enthusiastic response from participants.

The programme was held to honour the life and legacy of the Iron Man of India and to inspire the spirit of unity, integrity, and nationalism among the youth and the local community. A large number of students, government officials, and residents joined the celebration.

Mr. S. Krishna Chaitanya, Assistant Commissioner, Mayabunder, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Ms. Lata Hedge Prasad, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mayabunder, attended as the guest of honour. The chief guest administered the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) pledge and urged everyone to work towards building a self-reliant and united nation. He also flagged off the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rally from Danapur Junction to Netaji Stadium, Mayabunder. Dignitaries paid floral tributes by garlanding Patel’s portrait, followed by a rendition of Vande Mataram to commemorate 150 years of India’s national song.

Students from Mahatma Gandhi Government College presented a vibrant cultural programme celebrating patriotism and national unity. Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners of various competitions and activities, including essay writing, quiz contests, elocution, health camps, and cleanliness drives held as part of the commemoration.

Earlier, Mr. Sukharanjan Biswas, Joint Director, Mera Yuva Bharat, welcomed the gathering and spoke on the significance of celebrating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. K. Chithravelu, Pradhan, Mayabunder, who expressed gratitude to all departments, Panchayats, and participants for their cooperation and support.
