The Department of Agriculture, Rangat, in association with UTATMA, organised a one-day training programme under the Spices Pravah initiative on “Production and Value Addition of Spices” at the Community Hall, Adazig, under Sundergarh Panchayat in Baratang today.
The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about scientific cultivation practices and value addition opportunities in spice crops. Dr. Anees K, Principal Scientist, Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, served as the resource person and delivered a detailed session on the major spice crops grown in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, their production potential, and various value addition methods, along with improved techniques and best practices.
As part of the training, participants, along with the expert, visited the Spices Demonstration Farm at Adazig, where Dr. Anees highlighted the recommended package of practices being followed for spices cultivation.
The programme was attended by Mr. Vijay Mondal, Up Pramukh, Rangat; Ms. Taramani Minj, Up Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Sundergarh; Mr. Jayanth Ram, Junior Agriculture Assistant, Extension Circle Baratang; Mr. K. Lokanadhan, Assistant Technology Manager, ATMA Rangat; and 25 local farmers.
