Sports and Cultural Event Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Little Andaman

The Block Project Office (Samagra Shiksha), in partnership with the Education Department, Panchayat Samiti, and ICDS Project, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a Sports and Exposure Visit on December 3, 2024, at the Community Hall, Netaji Nagar. The event was spearheaded by B. Albakka, Mukhya Sevika, emphasizing the theme, “Know me for my abilities, not my disability.”

Approximately 100 Children with Special Needs (CwSN) and persons with disabilities enthusiastically participated in sports and cultural activities, showcasing their talents and inspiring the audience with their abilities.

Mr. S. Paramanathan, Pramukh of Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Mr. Belthezar, Block Development Officer, and Mr. Ajoy Mondal, Tehsildar of Little Andaman. Guests of Honour, Mr. S. Raja, Up-Pramukh of Panchayat Samiti, and Mr. A. Ganesh, PGT of PM SHRI GSSS Ramakrishnapur, also attended the event.

Key Resource Persons, Principals, Headmasters, Special Teachers, and Coordinator Ms. M. Vijayalakshmi played crucial roles in ensuring the event’s success.

The collaborative effort under the Samagra Shiksha initiative highlighted the significance of community involvement in fostering inclusivity and empowerment for persons with disabilities. It also underscored the commitment to creating an accessible society with equal opportunities for all.

This celebration not only provided a platform for participants to shine but also reinforced the message of recognising abilities over disabilities, paving the way for a more inclusive future.
