Sports Department to Organise Women’s Day Events at Netaji Stadium on March 7 & 8

To commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, in association with the Education Department and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), will organise a series of sports and recreational events for women on March 7 and 8 at Netaji Stadium.

The two-day programme will be held from 8.30 am to 5 pm and aims to encourage greater participation of women in sports and physical activities across different age groups.

According to a press release issued by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, competitions for women aged above 18 years and below 30 years will include 100 m, 200 m and 400 m sprints, 800 m race, 1.6 km cycle race, 50 m back run and 50 m sack race.

For women aged above 30 years, events such as 100 m and 200 m sprints, 1200 m walk, 50 m spoon race and 1.6 km cycle race will be conducted.

In addition, certain events including tug of war, passing the ball and musical chair will be open to participants of all age groups.

An Aerobic/Zumba demonstration will also be presented by the SYA Zumba Class ladies as part of the celebrations.

Interested participants have been asked to register their names with Ms. Shamli Bairagi, PET, over phone (9531807157) on or before 8 am on March 7, 2026.

The Department has invited women from across the Islands to take part in the events and celebrate the occasion in a spirited manner.
