The Director of Education and Sports, Directorate of Youth Affairs, Mr. Vikram Singh, on Thursday inaugurated a new Sports Hub at Sawai Village, Car Nicobar, reinforcing the Administration’s focus on youth development through sports.

The initiative forms part of the larger Football for Schools (F4S) programme, launched in October 2025, which aims to promote football as a medium for education, holistic growth, and the creation of a strong sports culture among students and youth.

Under the F4S programme, children below the age of 17—particularly those in the 8–17 age group—are being actively engaged in structured football training. The initiative also extends to young men and women from various villages of Car Nicobar, providing them with focused coaching and opportunities for sustained participation in sports activities.

With the inauguration of the Sawai facility, a total of nine Sports Hubs have now been established across Car Nicobar at Tamaloo, Kakana, Sawai, Chukchucha, Tapoiming, Big Lapathy, Arong, Mus, and Sawai villages. These hubs have been strategically located near schools and existing playgrounds to ensure easy access for students and local youth. Physical Education Teachers (PETs) and Nodal Teachers have been designated at each hub to conduct regular football coaching sessions during evening hours.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Vikram Singh highlighted the vital role of sports in the overall development of students. He noted that the initiative would not only enhance physical fitness but also foster qualities such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, self-confidence, and sportsmanship among young participants. He further emphasized that football offers a constructive platform for youth engagement and community bonding.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by village headmen, teachers, school students, and sports enthusiasts from the area, who expressed keen interest in participating in the football coaching sessions under the Sports Hub initiative.
