In view of the prevailing water scarcity, the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council has decided to implement water rationing measures for commercial establishments with immediate effect, in an effort to ensure equitable distribution of water among residents.

The decision was taken during a meeting convened with key stakeholders, including representatives of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce, after reviewing the current water availability and consumption patterns in the municipal area.

As per the decision, water supply to commercial establishments — including hotels, restaurants and other commercial buildings — will be regulated through a system of controlled rationing from February 24, 2026 onwards. The move is aimed at promoting judicious utilisation of the limited water resources and safeguarding essential domestic water supply.

Officials stated that the rationing measures are temporary and will remain in force until the water availability situation improves.

The Municipal Council has urged all commercial establishments to extend full cooperation and adopt appropriate water conservation practices in the larger public interest. It also appealed to all stakeholders to act responsibly and support the administration’s efforts to manage the ongoing water crisis effectively.
