The State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), under the Directorate of Social Welfare, organized an Adoption Awareness program aimed at educating Anganwadi Workers and the general public about the adoption process and its legal framework. The event, held at the Community Hall in Buniyadabad, sought to dispel misconceptions and foster a more supportive environment for adoption in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The program began with a welcome address from Ms. B. Mohini, an Anganwadi Worker, setting a warm tone for the gathering. Ms. T. Dharmila, Program Officer at SARA, provided an in-depth insight on the legal procedures and requirements for adoption. Her session emphasized the importance of understanding the legal obligations and processes involved in adoption, especially for prospective adoptive parents. She also highlighted the agency’s focus on encouraging the adoption of older children, offering insights into the unique benefits and needs of this group.

Mr. G. Koteshwar Rao, Program Manager at SARA, further elaborated on the legal aspects of adoption, aiming to clear common misconceptions and foster a positive outlook on adoption. He also introduced the newly recognized Specialised Adoption Agencies in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, expanding options and resources for prospective adoptive parents.

Ms. Suprova, a Mukhya Sevika, addressed the community on various adoption-related issues faced by the general public. A question-and-answer session followed, during which Anganwadi Workers and local residents sought clarifications on adoption procedures. The SARA team addressed these queries, providing accurate information and guidance.

Anganwadi Workers and attendees were encouraged to refer parents interested in adoption to the Directorate of Social Welfare, located in Room No. 308, for further assistance. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. T. Dharmila, who expressed appreciation for the active participation and engagement of the community.

The event underscored SARA’s commitment to promoting legal adoption and building a supportive network for families across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
