In a concerted effort to promote legal adoption and provide crucial assistance to those seeking to adopt, the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), operating under the State Child Protection Society, has been actively working towards ensuring children find permanent and loving family environments.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, the Director of Social Welfare, underscored the importance of legal adoption. Emphasising the significance of following proper channels, Dr. Shakya highlighted that legal adoption not only provides children with stable homes but also ensures that the process is conducted ethically and within the bounds of the law. SARA, under his guidance, plays a pivotal role in facilitating this process by extending support and guidance to prospective adoptive parents.

Procedures involved in the adoption process:

1. Application and Registration: Prospective adoptive parents are required to complete an application form and register with SARA to initiate the adoption process.

2. Home Study: A thorough assessment of the prospective adoptive parents’ home environment and personal background is conducted to ensure stability for the child’s adoption.

3. Counselling and Training: SARA provides essential counselling and training sessions to prepare prospective adoptive parents for the responsibilities associated with raising an adopted child.

4. Matching and Placement: SARA actively works to match children available for adoption with suitable families and facilitates the placement process.

5. Legal Formalities: The final step involves completing all necessary legal formalities and obtaining court orders to ensure the adoption is legally recognised.
