State Child Protection Society, operating under the Directorate of Social Welfare, is pushing for the integration of life skill education programs within Child Care Institutions (CCIs) as a means to empower and educate children under their care.
A recent life skill education awareness program conducted at Capstone CCI Home shed light on the pivotal role of such initiatives in bolstering the capabilities of children. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, underscored the significance of life skills and urged for the continual implementation of similar programs across all CCIs. He emphasized the necessity of raising awareness among children and facilitating their active involvement in programs aimed at fostering positive impacts.
Ms. Rehaneth Begum, Program Manager at the State Child Protection Society (SCPS), elaborated on the importance of life skill education and engaging activities for children. She emphasised how the acquisition of essential life skills can profoundly influence an individual’s overall development and future success.
The program at Capstone CCI Home focused on several key areas including child rights, communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. Child rights, which ensure access to education, healthcare, and protection from exploitation, were highlighted as fundamental for children’s well-being and development. Communication skills were emphasized to teach children effective expression and active listening. Moreover, problem-solving skills were targeted to equip children with the ability to tackle challenges independently, and emphasis was placed on emotional intelligence to help them understand and manage emotions effectively.
Mr. Kenneth Elijha, In-Charge of the CCI Home, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the institution to the State Child Protection Society (SCPS) under the Directorate of Social Welfare for organizing such engaging activities.
